We're Movin' On Up!

Perhaps some of you may have noticed that my postings have been less frequent as of late. Well, I haven't found a new love, nor have I had a baby, nor have I won the lottery. The big news is that as of August 1st, I will no longer be a resident of the balmy Bay Area. My husband and I will be moving to New York City.

Anyone who has made the cross-country move knows what I mean when I say, "It's a giant pain in the ass!" With packing up belongings, finding a place to live, waiting for the said belongings to reach NYC, etc., it's going to be a little difficult to get around to cooking, and to blogging. As I pack away my pots and pans, I think about favorite dishes that have been made with them. Having been born and raised in the Bay Area with a wealth of California produce, I am sad to see the local spherical summer fruits roll away. But I am excited to explore a new city (one as rich and lively as New York), to sample new cuisines, and to buy new groceries.

So until I return to the blogosphere (which won't be too terribly long, I hope) I leave you with the Dancin' Man from Central Park. Obviously, he's excited about the move as well.

Congratulations, and good luck on your move! As another who recently moved (two weeks ago yesterday), I can assure you that it is as much a pain in the ass to move only 120 miles away. I am still without a stove and dryer, and I know I will not feel truly settled until my kitchen is in order.

Too bad you don't live by me ~ I have a gazillion sturdy boxes and miles of bubblewrap I could pass on.

I look forward to your return. Don't burn yourself out. (That is MUCH easier said than done.)

Best of luck with your move. I did a big one across the pond 2 years ago (almost exactly) as well as 2 moves within those 2 years and I can say that it is a HUGE pain.

Suggestions: - label all your boxes with where they ought to go (aka kitchen, living room, etc) as well as have a printout of what's in each box (not specific but general...like dishes, glasses, pictures)..that way you can get out the things you need first and unpack the things you don't 'need' later!

Best of luck...we'll miss your blog!

Wow! The big city! I don't envy the moving part but I believe you will really love the experience. Hope the move goes well and that you find great neighbors and fun shops.
Really enjoy your blog.

Wow, I'll miss your stories about Berkeley Bowl and Monterey Market produce! Congratulations on the move, but I am sad to hear that you are leaving the Bay Area. I guess the blog will have a new perspective though, and that will be wonderful.

Yay! Congratulations! We're moving to New York next March, so hopefully we'll see you and Brian around town.

After too many cross-country moves, I heartily second the box inventory. It will make your life much easier until you're completely unpacked.

On behalf of the Big Apple and myself, welcome! We don't have the produce but we've got the sass, as the dancing man amply demonstrates. Can't wait till you're here...let the weekly dinners commence!

Congratulations! De-lurking to say that I'm a tad jealous, as my husband and I dream of moving to NYC someday. For now, we'll be content with visiting as frequently as possible.

Hope you made it safely and that the unpacking hasn't made you completely mad (particularly in the crazy heat you are experiencing now).
